PAU, a Feature film by Alexandre Leter color graded on Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve
PAU is set to release in Paris the 13th March 2019 at Le Saint André des Arts in Paris.
I worked as a Colorist on Pau, a feature film mixing both Digital and Traditional film (Half was shot on 16mm using Kodak and half was shot using a Red Digital Camera, Raw format). I spend close time to equalize the film with the help of the Director of Photography Kevin Avedissian under the supervision of Samuel Leter.
On most occasions, the job was to ensure that the movie was safe for theatrical release but a few tips and tricks were developed to fix issues where some digital shots had to be converted to look like 16mm film because the film use both medium to tell a different story. The Film look was for the dream world and the harshness of Digital was reserved for reality but, in some instances they felt during the editing that some Digital shots matched more closely the dream sequence and as a result, needed slight color Balance and introduction of degradation (such as Chromatic Aberration, Grain, Halation…) to reproduce the film look so they could be inserted correctly into the sequence.
